Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale di Roma Vittorio Emanuele II

Historic site · Castro Pretorio, Lazio

One of Italy's two national central libraries, in a Movimento Moderno building occupied from 1975.

History

The Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale di Roma Vittorio Emanuele II is at Viale Castro Pretorio 105, 00185 Rome. Italian Wikipedia describes it as one of Italy's two national central libraries alongside the Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale di Firenze, records that it was instituted in the 1870s and originally housed in the Collegio Romano, and attributes the present building, occupied from 1975, to Massimo Castellazzi, Tullio Dell'Anese and Annibale Vitellozzi, working in the idiom of the Movimento Moderno. Italian Wikipedia also says three exhibition areas in the atrium are open to the public, among them the Museo Spazi900, whose permanent centrepiece, La stanza di Elsa, recreates Elsa Morante's writing room from her original furniture. No source states the library's hours, holdings figures or access conditions, so none are given here.
