The southern of the two churches that face the entrance of piazza del Popolo, standing between via del Corso and via di Ripetta.

History

Roma Capitale records that both churches were originally designed by Carlo Rainaldi and completed by Bernini with Carlo Fontana, and that they were conceived as symmetrical but built, for want of space, on different plans and with different domes, octagonal for Santa Maria dei Miracoli and dodecagonal for Santa Maria in Montesanto, so that from the square they read as identical through a purely optical effect.
