International Hotel Manilatown Center
Historic site · San Francisco Chinatown, California
The building at 868 Kearny Street holds senior housing together with St Mary's School and the Manilatown Center. It opened in 2005, on the site of the International Hotel.
History
Wikipedia records that the International Hotel was established as a hotel for travellers in 1854, moved to Kearny Street in 1873 and was rebuilt in 1907 after the earthquake and fire of the previous year; that it had become a low-income single-room-occupancy hotel housing a largely Filipino American community; and that from about 1954 its basement held Enrico Banducci's original hungry i. All its tenants were evicted on 4 August 1977 and the building was demolished in 1981. The site was bought by International Hotel Senior Housing Inc. and rebuilt.
