Downtown Mystic Drawbridge
Historic site · Mystic, Connecticut
The landmark bascule drawbridge over the Mystic River in the heart of downtown, a Brown Balance Beam Bascule Bridge whose two 230-ton concrete counterweights raise its 85-foot span — still the line dividing Mystic's Groton and Stonington halves.
History
The bridge opened on July 19, 1922, replacing an earlier 1904 bridge over the same crossing.
