History
The City of Brooklyn acquired the land from the Cowenhoven family by 1842 and opened it in 1847 as Washington Park, the city's second public park. Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux redesigned it in 1867, and it was renamed for General Nathanael Greene.
