Palazzo Ferrajoli

Historic site · Colonna, Lazio

A palace on Piazza Colonna, its façade of four storeys divided into three by four rusticated vertical bands. Roma Capitale states that it can be visited only on the occasion of receptions, conferences and exhibitions, and gives the telephone number 06 69200497.

History

Roma Capitale records that it was built over the old houses of the Del Bufalo-Cancellieri and that in the 1500s its façades were partly frescoed; that it was modernised in 1561 by Giacomo Della Porta and restructured in 1626 by Francesco Peparelli, which gave it its present appearance, for the marriage of Paolo Del Bufalo to a Santacroce. It passed to the Niccolini in 1728. Cardinal Joseph Fesch, Napoleon's uncle and French ambassador to Rome, was installed here under the Empire, and the Marchese Giuseppe Ferrajoli bought it in 1850.
