Piazza Costaguti

Historic site · Sant'Angelo, Lazio

The square behind Palazzo Costaguti, which shows its rear facades on it. The deconsecrated Cappella di Santa Maria del Carmine e del Monte Libano stands on the square, and the Antico Forno Urbani is at no. 31.

History

The square takes its name from the Costaguti, the Genoese bankers who bought the palace on it from the heirs of Monsignor Costanzo Patrizi in 1578. Forced sermons to the Jews of the neighbouring ghetto were preached in the open square in front of the chapel in the early evening.
