Putnam Memorial State Park

183 acres preserving the Continental Army's 1778-79 winter encampment under General Israel Putnam, Connecticut's first State Archaeological Preserve. Reconstructed log buildings, an artifact museum and a 44-foot granite monument built in 1888. Park open daily 8 a.m.-sunset, free; museum/visitor center open Memorial Day-Veterans Day, Friday-Monday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. — hours vary slightly by source, so call (203) 938-2285 to confirm.
