Sleeping Giant State Park tower

A 1,439-acre traprock ridge park with about 40 miles of trails and a stone observation tower at the summit with 360-degree views; its Tower Trail was designated Connecticut's first National Recreation Trail. Open daily 8 a.m. to sunset; frequently reaches capacity in fall.

History

Named for a traprock ridge said to resemble a sleeping giant; in Quinnipiac legend the giant is the spirit Hobbomock. The park was created after quarry blasting threatened the ridge's profile.
