The baths named for Helena, the mother of Constantine, which stood beside Santa Croce in Gerusalemme. Nothing of them is standing: what survived was demolished at the end of the sixteenth century by Domenico Fontana, for Sixtus V, to open the stretch of the strada Felice in front of Santa Croce, which is today's via di Santa Croce in Gerusalemme.
History
The baths are of Severan date, on the evidence of the earliest brick stamps and a dedication to Julia Domna found on the site. Helena restored them after a fire in 323-326; her dedication, CIL VI 1136, is now in the Vatican Museums. The plan is known from Renaissance drawings by Palladio and Giuliano da Sangallo.
