The Public Theater

Founded by Joseph Papp as the Shakespeare Workshop in 1954 and housed in the landmark 1853-1881 Astor Library building, it premiered Hair (1967), A Chorus Line (1975), and Hamilton (2015); 55 of its productions have moved to Broadway. Now led by Artistic Director Oskar Eustis, with five theater spaces plus Joe's Pub and ongoing Shakespeare in the Park.
