Third Street Bridge

The bascule bridge that carries Third Street over Mission Creek Channel, also called the Lefty O'Doul Bridge. San Francisco Landmark No. 194, designated in 1989.

History

The Strauss Engineering Corporation designed the span, which opened in 1933; the earlier crossing on the site closed to traffic in 1931. The main span is a 143-foot single-leaf bascule truss over a 104-foot channel, and the Operator's and Watchman's Houses stand on the piers.
