Tor Sanguigna

A medieval tower in Ponte, what survives of the stronghold of the Sanguigni family. The square in front of it is recorded by Roma Capitale's street register as lying in two rioni; the tower itself is in Ponte.
History
it.wikipedia records that the Sanguigni lived here until at least the fifteenth century and died out in the eighteenth, and that the tower possibly descends from a first tower built by the Gemini family before the eleventh century. In the Middle Ages the toponym covered the whole area between what is now via Zanardelli, via dei Coronari and Sant'Agostino. Riccardo Sanguigni was beheaded here in 1406 by Paolo Orsini for siding with the Colonna.
