Valley Falls Park
Park · Vernon, Connecticut
A 196-acre town park and nature preserve with hiking, fishing, and picnic areas. Across the road, the 1850s Valley Falls Farm operates seasonally as a Heritage Center with self-guided and guided tours on select weekends.
History
Christian Sharps, inventor of the Sharps Rifle, bought the 150-acre property in 1871 and ran a trout-breeding operation there until his death in 1874; the Vernon Fire District purchased the original parcel around 1962, with more acreage donated to the town in 1972.
