History
The park opened on May 26, 2007 as East River State Park, on the former site of the Brooklyn Eastern District Terminal. It was renamed in February 2020 and dedicated on August 24, 2020 to honor the LGBTQ activist Marsha P. Johnson, making it the first New York state park named for an LGBTQ person.
