Aurelian Walls, Trastevere segment

A stretch of the Aurelian Walls that lies wholly inside the rione. The whole circuit is not recorded as a Trastevere place: the mapped object for it runs through ten separate units of the city and belongs to none of them.

History

it.wikipedia describes the Aurelian Walls on this bank as a triangle climbing the Janiculum to enclose the Trastevere area, with Porta Settimiana at its northern vertex and Porta San Pancrazio as its southern gate. When Urban VIII raised the Mura gianicolensi in 1643 he took a different line, and the Aurelian Walls on the Janiculum were demolished.
