Area archeologico-naturalistica delle Saline

Historic site · Ostia Antica, Lazio

The remains of Ostia's river harbour, outside the fenced excavation and reached from viale dei Romagnoli by via delle Saline. The quay is a tufa-block revetment more than 100 metres long and 15 metres wide, its western end shaped as a mole head, with reticulate-work walls set at right angles linking the quay to the shore. The area is almost entirely reburied. No source states its opening hours, so none are given here.

History

The structure is known as the molo repubblicano, though the operator states that the republican dating cannot be taken as certain.
