Sinagoga di Ostia

The synagogue of the Ostian Jewish community: a vestibule, a colonnaded entrance, and a prayer hall with a raised bimah at the far end oriented towards Jerusalem. An aedicula for the Torah scrolls is surmounted by corbels carved with the seven-branched menorah.
History
Built about the middle of the first century AD for the local Jewish community and rebuilt completely in the fourth century AD. A large adjoining hall has benches, and a room with an oven and a counter has been read as a place to make unleavened bread.
