Palazzo delle Finanze
Historic site · Castro Pretorio, Lazio
The finance ministry's palace on Via XX Settembre, holding two historic libraries.
History
The Ministero dell'Economia e delle Finanze gives the address of the Palazzo delle Finanze as Via XX Settembre 97, 00187 Rome. Italian Wikipedia's article on the rione dates the building 1871-1876. The sources disagree on the architect: the rione article credits the engineer Raffaele Canevari, while Italian Wikipedia's separate article on the building names Francesco Pieroni, Ercole Rosa and Pietro Costa. Two articles of the same encyclopedia disagreeing with each other are not a source, and no third source names an architect.
The ministry's own pages record that the Biblioteca Storica is in the building, holding funds inherited from the Kingdom of Sardinia and other pre-unification states, and that the Biblioteca Luca Pacioli holds over 12,000 volumes together with runs of the Rendiconto generale dello Stato and of the Bilancio di Previsione from 1870 onward.
