Hotel · Chelsea, New York
A hotel that opened in 2003 with 121 rooms and 5 suites decorated on a nautical theme, in the West 16th Street building nicknamed the 'pizza box,' which has porthole-style window openings. It participates in the Lifestyle Preferred and iPrefer loyalty programs.
History
The Ninth Avenue and 17th Street buildings were sold in 1987 to Covenant House, which ran them as a shelter for runaways; in 1994 the Chinese government acquired them and ran them as housing and services for Chinese artists, students and businessmen. In 2001 Sean K. MacPherson and Eric Goode bought the Ninth Avenue building for $19 million with the developers Richard Born and Ira Drukier. The adjacent 17th Street building was separately converted into the Dream Downtown Hotel in 2011, to designs by Frank Fusaro.
