Bartlett Arboretum & Gardens

Established in 1913 by Dr. Francis A. Bartlett, a dendrologist and the founder of the F.A. Bartlett Tree Expert Company, who acquired roughly 30 acres of North Stamford woodland for his residence, a training school and a research laboratory. The State of Connecticut bought the property in 1965 and designated it the Connecticut State Arboretum; operations passed to the University of Connecticut at Stamford in 1993, and in 2001 the land was transferred to the City of Stamford with operations moving to the independent nonprofit Bartlett Arboretum Association, which runs it still.
