History
The Palace opened in the summer of 1927 as a vaudeville and silent-movie house, marketed then as "Connecticut's Most Magnificent" and designed by Thomas W. Lamb, whose other work includes New York's Madison Square Garden of 1925 and the Mark Hellinger Theatre. It carried on as a movie house after vaudeville declined, stayed open until 1980, closed for three years, and reopened in 1983 for live theatre, opera, dance and concerts. The theatre says it will celebrate its hundredth year in 2027.
