Bronx River Forest

Park · Bronx Park, New York

A wooded area along the Bronx River corridor whose southern extent reaches into the New York Botanical Garden. The Bronx River Alliance describes it as a remnant of the original forests and floodplains that once blanketed the Bronx River corridor, and records many trees exceeding 100 years in age. Upgraded paths, nature trails, boardwalks and overlooks run through it.

History

The Bronx River Alliance manages the forest in partnership with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation and, by the Alliance's own account, more than a hundred partner organizations. Recent work has focused on floodplain restoration, habitat expansion and public-access infrastructure.
