The Klein Memorial Auditorium

A 1,447-seat performing-arts hall, described as one of only seven Broadway-sized stages remaining in Connecticut. Its resident organizations include the Greater Bridgeport Symphony Orchestra, in residence about 60 years, the New England Ballet Company, the Greater Bridgeport Youth Orchestras, ConnectUs and the Fairfield County Children's Choir, and it now hosts more than 150 events a year. It runs Klein Theatre Arts, a tuition-free arts-education program in music, dance and drama for Bridgeport students.
History
The auditorium opened in 1940, funded by a bequest from Jacob Klein (1862-1932), a Bridgeport lawyer and community advocate, and designed by the architect Leonard Asheim. Performers who have appeared here include Leonard Bernstein, Martin Luther King Jr., B.B. King, Alice Cooper and George Carlin. Use had fallen to 65 days of rentals in 2010, and the hall has been through a revitalization since 2013.
