Nathan's Famous (original stand)

The hot dog stand Nathan and Ida Handwerker founded in 1916, which still exists at the corner of Surf and Stillwell Avenues.
History
It closed after Hurricane Sandy on October 29, 2012 and reopened on May 21, 2013. On January 21, 2026 the Nathan's Famous chain announced an agreement to be acquired by Smithfield Foods for $450 million in cash, expected to close in the first half of 2026; the effect on the original stand itself has not been specified.
