An ex-church at the junction of via di Monserrato and piazza de' Ricci. Three explanations of its name are on record and none is settled: Nibby derives it from a founding family, Armellini from a popular corruption of agnus, and Rendina from the Semitic ain, spring.
History
The church is first cited in a document of Urban III of 1186 among the daughter churches of San Lorenzo in Damaso, and appears in the Cencio Camerario catalogue as sancto Johanni in Agina. Its parish counted about 40 families and 300 people in 1566, about 60 families in 1660 and about 30 in 1697. The portal architrave records the rebuilding at the expense of Giusto Bonanni of San Gimignano.
