Balthazar
Restaurant · SoHo, New York
A French brasserie in a former tannery building at 80 Spring Street, serving traditional French fare from breakfast through supper every day, with brunch at weekends and bread and pastries baked at Balthazar Bakery. Steak frites is the most popular dish, at about 200 portions a day, alongside steak au poivre, short ribs, duck confit and French onion soup — the soup the New York Daily News rated the city's second-best in 2013.
History
Opened on April 21, 1997 by restaurateur Keith McNally. A London sibling followed in Covent Garden in 2012, and Morandi and Minetta Tavern are its New York sister restaurants.
