Soho Grand Hotel
Hotel · SoHo, New York
A West Broadway hotel whose venues include the Grand Bar & Salon, with DJs spinning vinyl Wednesday through Saturday; the Club Room, for live music; the Soho Diner; Gilligan's; and The Gallery. Guest bike rentals are complimentary. Interiors are by William Sofield, and the architecture incorporates bottle glass and cast-iron molding of the kind prominent in SoHo's industrial-era buildings.
History
The hotel opened on August 4, 1996 on the former site of the Church of St. Alphonsus Liguori, after eight earlier attempts to build a hotel there had failed over the preceding decade. David Helpern was the architect. It is owned and operated by Leonard N. Stern of Hartz Mountain Industries through GrandLife Hotels, which also operates the Roxy Hotel, and it has been featured in The Sopranos and Sex and the City.
